My journey to becoming Google Developer Groups, (previously GDSC ) Lead
If you’ve come across this article, assuming you already know what GDSCs and GDGs are, I’ll just briefly define:
Google Developers Groups are (GDG) are community-driven groups of developers, typically city-based, where working professionals organise events, build projects, focused on Google technologies.
And GDSCs are university-based communities where students collaborate to learn, build projects, and grow their skills with the aim of helping the local developers community.
I’ve been part of GDSC NIT Rourkela since my first year.
Now let’s move forward to the requirements of being a lead
The process :
Talking about the selection process, every year around March -April the applications for leads are opened.
GDSC, GDG leads are chosen by google developers program managers.

Students are needed to record and submit the application video .

2. Diagnostic and Aptitude Test
These tests are conducted online, with live proctoring with camera and microphone on. This part is divided into two sections
- Aptitude test
- Leadership test
Yeah, you read it correct, leadership test. Now you must be wondering how is leadership determined through online test.
Even we aren’t aware of the matrix for evaluation, but all we know is about the questions in this test, that are mostly the type of questions you’ll encounter while giving personality tests like MBTI or enneagram.
Students are expected to choose answers from given range of most likely to least likely.
